He who as a child has observed in his parents and acquaintances of his childhood varied and strong passions but with little subtlety in discernment and inclination for intellectual justice and has therefore employed his strengths and his most precious time in imitating these feelings will observe in himself when he arrives at maturity that every new thing or man he meets with excites in him either sympathy or antipathy or envy or contempt.  Under the pressure of such experience which he is powerless to overcome he admires neutrality of feeling or "objectivity "as an extraordinary thing, as something connected with genius or a very rare morality and he cannot believe that even this neutrality is merely the product of education and habit.
